Natural dandruff recipes are not for everyone.  They are for people that are concerned about cosmetic toxins. If you are not concerned about cosmetic toxins then this link is more appropriate for you.

Examples of Dandruff

Dandruff is not everyones favourite aesthetic look. What makes matters even worse, nobody knows exactly what causes it. So the best we can do is try to manage it as best we can. These natural dandruff recipes will do a little more than clean up a flaky scalp.

We have all seen adverts of frowning people with itchy and flaky scalps and moments later, there are images of smiley people with beautiful looking hair. Chemicals are just great, aren't they?

Yes they are and our world has advanced considerably because of them. The problem is, regulation has not advanced as fast and chemical production, for products like cosmetics, is practically a free for all with regulation only being introduced after a problem has been identified.

Silicone for the shine, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate for the bubbles and Zinc Pyrithione for the active anti-dandruff action, are all typical ingredients in anti-dandruff shampoos.

Our skin absorbs some of these chemicals which enter the bloodstream and are transported to all the cells in the body.

So what does Zinc Pyrithione do

It is :

  • Persistent and bioaccumulative

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency, persistent and bioaccumulative they "are long-lasting substances that can build up in the food chain to levels that are harmful to human and ecosystem health. These contaminants can be transported long distances and move readily from land to air and water. Because of their persistence and bioaccumulative properties, they do not break down easily and are particularly difficult to clean up. Many of these substances are human-made and have only been in existence for a relatively short period of history. Other of these substances are natural elements, such as mercury. It is the refinement and concentrated human use of these substances that creates the problem."

  • Non reproductive organ system toxin

There is some evidence from animal tests that show organ toxicity.

  • Eco toxin

Environmental toxin.

The commercial cosmetic manufacturers will argue that the Zinc Pyrithione amounts are so little that it has no effect on our body. In tiny amounts, our defenses will automatically breakdown the chemical and / or dispose of it.

Tests have been done and this is probably mostly true. The problem is that you may use this shampoo everyday, your neighbour may use it too and his neighbour ... and so on. Because it is persistent and bioaccumulative and does not easily break down naturally, these tiny amounts start to build up.

It starts in our bath and shower water. It travels to our rivers. It travels to our fish and vegetables and comes back into our bodies through our food (and continues via our anti-dandruff shampoo too).

So now your body has to remove a lot more than what was actually tested and this is where the problem begins. Our bodies are amazing and they can deal with pretty much any toxin thrown at it.

Some toxins can be disposed of in larger quantities (such as alcohol) and some toxins can only be disposed of in tiny quantities (such as lead). Lead is ubiquitous and occurs naturally in our environment and our body can cope with this.

But when lead is added to lipstick, we now increase the amount to a level that the body is unable to cope with. The lead levels accumulate and we start to get sick.

It is not rocket science ... one way or another, this is how it works.

This is rubbish ... I'm still healthy

Of course people are not dropping dead all over the place. The toxin build-up manifests itself in many different ways that are not immediately obvious, such as :

  • cancers
  • asthma
  • infertility
  • learning disabilities
  • and others

Remember the days when smoking was not attributed to lung cancer and other respiratory problems? Unfortunately, a lot of people had to die or get sick before Government regulation woke up.

So what can you do about it

The truth is not very much.

Democracies today are heavily influenced by big business and unless you have a lot of money to lobby or are prepared to get beaten up, spied upon, shot or locked up (in between your 9 to 5 job because you need to work to pay off debt), you will not change anything as an individual.

But what you can do as an individual is learn how the system works so that you can avoid the traps.

Natural dandruff recipes will certainly not change the world but it is a small step in an important direction - learning alternatives to avoid a system that favours profit before health ... your health.

Why is this important

This information and the natural dandruff recipes are free for anyone that want to read them. But if you are too busy watching TV, playing games or filling up your time with other non self beneficial distractions, you will be one of the many having to deal with toxins in the future.

It is never too late to change and any journey starts with the first step.

Some tips about avoiding dandruff

Without knowing exactly what causes dandruff, it is trial and error to try and figure out what causes it. For those of us that are affected by it, these are some suggestions that may help.

  • Reduce stress.
  • Keep your hair clean.
  • Use milder shampoos.
  • Try shampoo with Neem.
  • Limit hair styling products.
  • Eat a healthy and balanced diet.
  • Investigate the usage of essential oils (Tea Tree oil is one of them)
  • Zinc is a natural anti-dandruff active ingredient. Investigate vitamin compounds that are rich in Zinc.
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS) is used in almost all shampoos as a foaming agent (makes the bubbles). It is also a mild skin irritant that may be causing dandruff as a side effect. Try using a shampoo without the SLS ingredient.

Our natural dandruff recipes will certainly not cure dandruff, they will only help you try to manage it. If you have any suggestions that have worked for you, please post them using the form below.

Simplicity makes it fun

These natural advantage shampoo recipes are simple to make and easy to use. Most ingredients are available from local health shops. Occasionally, you may have to buy some ingredients on the internet.

If the ingredients are not available in your country, always check your local laws to make sure that you can import cosmetics into your country - some countries restrict the import of cosmetic ingredients.

These natural advantage shampoo recipes are probably just the tip of the iceberg. There are probably many more favourites out there.
